The problem
VR headsets are black boxes.
It's time to change that.
Today's headsets are designed for the broadest possible audience.
It means that everyone has to make compromises when choosing their headset.
Locked down
Closed ecosystems dictate every aspect of your experience. What you can run, what you can play and how long it will last.
One size fits none
Designed to serve the widest market and use cases, current headsets don't truly fit anyone perfectly.
Built for obsolescence
Every new generation forces a full replacement. Tonnes of e-waste, thousands of euros spent. There's a better way.
The solution
Built for how you actually need it.
Tailored to
your needs
Choose the optics, ergonomics, tracking system and if it needs to be standalone or not.
It match your exact use case, not someone else's average.
VR gaming or social, LBE, industrial : Osmose adapts to you.
Never restart
from scratch
When better displays or more powerful compute arrives, swap just that module. No forced full replacement. Your headset evolves with technology indefinitely.
Own it,
really own it
Replaceable components. Open documentation. A staff and a community that helps.
If something breaks, you fix it, you don't throw it away.
Right to repair isn't a feature, it's a legal right.
Who it's for
Made for those
who wants to push the limits.
VR Enthusiasts & Gamers
Social VR or Gaming. Configure your headset around what features you love, not what the designer decided you need. And when better hardware arrives, swap just that part. No full replacement, no compromise.
Universities, laboratories, research organizations
Open specs and reproducible hardware setups are a researcher's best asset. Integrate easily custom sensors and publish studies peers can replicate with the exact same hardware configuration.
Location-Based Entertainment
Replace a part on-site in minutes, not the whole headset. Standardized parts cut your TCO and maintenance overhead, so your team focuses on crafting great experiences rather than managing hardware.
Industrial & Professional
A headset that fits your workflow, not the other way around. Open documentation eases IT deployment and auditing. A repairable, long-lived platform aligns with industrial capex cycles. Upgrade one module, keep the rest.
Questions
Everything you want to know.
We're in early development. By subscribing to our newsletter or joining our Discord server, you'll be the first to know about milestones, prototypes, and availability windows.
We're targeting a mid-range to high-end price point, competitive with current flagship headsets in these categories. The real long-term value: instead of paying full price every 2–3 years, you only replace the module that actually needs an upgrade.
The full hardware interface specifications and mechanical designs of our own modules
will be published openly. Third parties manufacturers, makers, companies can build
compatible modules without needing our permission, but they naturally have to comply with the licenses for these projects.
Absolutely — that's what our Discord is built for. Whether you're an engineer, designer, developer, or simply someone with strong opinions about what a great headset should feel like, your perspective matters. Join the conversation. We are actively seeking individuals who would like to help us bring this project to life.
About
Hardware should serve people.
Not the other way around.
Osmose Industries has found the will to free virtual worlds from the stranglehold of hardware that was not designed for its users by its users.Quel
We're building the platform we always wished existed. An open, modular XR ecosystem where the hardware is as flexible and powerful as the software running on it.
Open by design
Specifications and standards are public. A growing ecosystem benefits everyone.
Built to last
Repairability and upgradeability aren't optional features. They're requirements.
Community first
Shaped by the people who actually use it. Always.
